Remodelling the Office, April 2008

With the weather warming up, we thought that it was finally time to start preparing the baby's room. Now, there are 2 identical bedrooms upstairs. One has been earmarked as the "Nursery" since we moved in, and the other has been our "Office". We thought that we could kill two birds with one stone and remodel both rooms at the same time. Much to the dismay of many who ask, Scott decided to start on the "Office" first and leave the "Nursery" for last.

Here is the before shot of the office. We thought the yellow walls were a little too pale, and the carpet needed to go. Of course, Sue's campaign against popcorn ceilings has already been documented elsewhere on this site.

Another before shot. The yellow was so pale, that it actually made the walls look dirty all the time. We thought we could keep the yellow, but find a deeper tone.

Scott's first task was to take down the popcorn ceiling. The room is small enough that it only took about 45 minutes to do.

Next, we tested a yellow that we had liked last year, but it just didn't give us enough contrast with our pumkin butter walls in the living room. The color is called Butter Cookie, and we think it will work in this room.

Ah, the carpet. If the carpet in the main room wasn't bad enough, check out the glimpse of the original carpet in the closet. After weighing our options, we decided to go with Pergo laminate flooring in the bedrooms.

Once progress on the room stalled, we enlisted the help of Scott's Dad to get things back on track.

Scott and his Dad were able to make quick work of the carpet.

Overall, the Pergo flooring went in quick.

Probably would have been even faster if they setup the chop saw on the second floor balcony instead of in the driveway.

Took about half a day to lay the floor, and left enough time to even paint the second coat of wall paint.

The next day, they finished up installing the baseboards and cleaned up.

The transformation was incredible. The colors really warmed up the room. Hopefully the baby's room comes out just as good.
